Symbolism in Cemeteries - Website Recommendations
by Sheri Fenley

On a tip from fellow Rabbit Gale Wall, I have found a one man powerhouse who is dedicated to symbolism, in particular those found in cemeteries. Richard Waterhouse has a wonderful website, a monthly newsletter and blog showcasing the symbols found on headstones in the famous Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. If that wasn't enough, Richard is also a docent at the cemetery and conducts monthly tours.

While I have you in the mood, might I suggest you take a look at these fabulous sites about symbolism:

Magnolias & Peaches has an extensive list that include photos of symbols and icons.

City of the Silent - Cemetery Symbolism offers "A Wary Glossary" reminding us that knowing your history makes a difference in the interpretation of symbols.

Rochester's History, An Illustrated Timeline offers a "Glossary of Victorian Cemetery Symbolism." This site also has a huge collection of photos.
