Photo Monument: A Grave Photo Essay
a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions.------
In the small town of Lucas, KS you can visit the mausoleum of Samuel Perry Dinsmoor and see him in his coffin with a glass lid, behind a window. [No photos are allowed].
The mausoleum is on the property of his cabin home called Garden of Eden. Inside the mausoleum you will also see a double exposed photo that he made in which he is standing over and gazing upon himself in the coffin.
Don’t forget to pick up a copy of his self published booklet The Cabin Home. It includes many photos and information on the mausoleum, which he calls a stone log cabin mausoleum.
The Garden of Eden was recently sold to Wisconsin-based Kohler Foundation, which plans a massive restoration. When the restoration is done, Kohler will transfer ownership to Friends of S.P. Dinsmoor’s Garden of Eden, based in Lucas.
