Photo Monument 5/10/12

Photo Monument: A Grave Photo Essay
a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions.
------
The Maehl, Thoms and Weber obelisk, located in the Elmwood Cemetery in Jackson County, Missouri, is sheltered by a weeping palm.

As seen in photo 3 the palm is rooted in the firm foundation of the monument.

The ivy encircles both the obelisk and the palm.

In photos 5 & 6 the fronds appear as fingers clinging to or perhaps embracing the monument.

This monument is also featured in the book: Soul in the Stone, Cemetery Art from America’s Heartland, by John Gary Brown.
